WELCOME TO THE MARVEL FAMILY COMMUNITY ON HOOSIER ROOTS

The Marvel Community assembles my research on the MARVELL family of England in the 1500's to John MARVELL the immigrant (circa 1652) who settled in Virginia, further following the line through Maryland, Georgia, and finally to Gibson and Posey counties in Indiana where Prettyman MARVEL migated to in 1809. Prettyman MARVEL's descendents were numerous, originally populating southern Indiana and Illinois, and of course eventaully spreading across the United States.While the primary focus of the Marvel Community is on the descndents of John MARVELL, my research on the ROGERS and WILLIAMS families of Posey County is also listed here as is information on the collateral lines of KNOWLES, MONTGOMERY, and BARR.

The information I have listed here is a combination of family notes, shared research from other family historians, and research into origianl records from southern Indiana. I am much endebted to Carol and Gloria Cox of Posey County, who well before the days of computers, painstakingly transcribed and indexed records, leaving a trail for us to follow.
